Child Support
Education
|
Education is the core of our rehabilitation programmes. To date, we have
all our children of school-going age attending school. Younger children attend
nursery school within the centre while the rest attend various primary, secondary and vocational schools, some of which are boarding
schools.

One of our boys has developed an interest in athletics and has joined a local athletics
training club.
Provision of shelter, food and clothing
The children are accommodated in three rooms - one dormitory for boys, one for girls
and one for small babies. Although the space is inadequate, the children are
happy and comfortable.
Sponsors have been very supportive in terms of donating foodstuffs. We also
get support from the government, the civil society and the private sector.
Common foodstuffs donated to us include maize, beans, green grams, wheat/barley,
rice and cooking fat.
Spiritual growth and development
One's spirituality is a determinant factor in one's perception of life
and the day to day challenges of it. Values of faith, love and trust in God
help us develop a system of belief that is balanced; it is this that harmonizes
the intellectual, physical and social aspects.
Psycho-social Development
Activities such as counselling, life skill training and child recreational
facilities are offered to the children.
Community and Self-Sustenance Projects
We have a farm where we do subsistence farming
to supplement the food donations we get from our well-wishers. We have planted
cereal i.e. maize and beans, vegetables, potatoes and tomatoes amongst others.
We have a thoroughly developed drip irrigation system that is only lacking in a
few inputs.
The centre has a borehole water project that supplies the centre and neighbouring
community with water. We also use this water to irrigate the farm and this
enhances crop production.
We collaborate with local communities in delivering activities and services.
We look for local supporters whose programs address our envisaged activities and
particularly for self-sustenance purposes.
We offer training and outreach programs targeting other vulnerable groups in the
community such as youth, single mothers and people living with HIV/AIDS.
The centre has provided employment to local community members, currently with five
technical staff and seventeen support staff. We work with teams of foreign
volunteers and this complements our human resource base towards meeting the needs
of the children.
